Sudlersville Middle School and the PBIS committee are pleased to announce the eleventh annual Holiday Happenings event at SMS on December 22nd.  Each year, our staff and community provide donated gifts that our students can “purchase” with Thunderbucks for holiday gift giving. SMS students have been earning Thunderbucks for positive behavior. Holiday Happenings is an opportunity for students to spend hard-earned Thunderbucks on gifts for the holidays.

In order to make this event a success, we need donations from our community. Please take some time to look all around your home for gently used or new items that will make someone’s holiday a little brighter.  Please drop your items off in the front office of SMS or contact Carrie Mitten to arrange a pick up at

Here's a Wrap Up of KIHS' Cross Country Season by Rick Unger

The Kent Island High School Cross Country teams completed their season on Saturday, November 11 at the Maryland 2A State Meet held at Hereford High School. Molly Connelly has been the fastest girl on the Eastern Shore and in the 2A East Region. She finished the season by running the three-mile course in 20.17 for an 11th place finish. Erick Sanchez finished first in every Eastern Shore meet, and, he and Brandon Nichols had similar results during the season. They both finished at the State Meet in record times with Brandon finishing 11th and Erick finishing 13th.

Throughout the year, the Girl’s team accomplished first place finishes for every meet except one--they came in second--on the Eastern Shore meets. They won the Bayside Conference Championship, and, they won the 2A Region Meet. The Boy’s team did not lose a meet on the Eastern Shore, and, they too, won the Bayside Conference Championship. They finished 2nd in the 2A Region Meet.

The girl’s team accomplished their many accolades with only 7 runners. They had a tremendous year, and, all runners will return next year. The boy’s team consisted of twenty runners, and, they will only lose four seniors to graduation. The parents, coaches, and runners are very appreciative of the results of both teams. The runners enjoyed running during practices as well as the meets.

Special Winter Online PD Course Session
FROM MSDE: There are many teachers in Maryland who are trying to get those last 3 credits in order to renew their certification. As you know, we did not offer fall online PD courses due to delays in the development of MSDE's Learning Management System RFP.
Now that this has been settled, a special winter session is being offered that can help solve both professional learning and certification needs. Most of the courses available will be generic in content and/or grade level.
Please use the link below to examine the offerings and consider signing up for a course.
