Career and Technology Education

Career and Technology Education (CTE) prepares both youth and adults for a wide range of careers. These careers require varying levels of education- from high school and postsecondary certificates, to apprenticeships, or two- and four-year college degrees. Students add value to their overall education by completing CTE programs of study that provide opportunities to earn industry-recognized credentials and college credit while still in high school.
CTE is no longer the vocational programs of the past, instead the skills students will learn are technical, rich in math and science and provide critical thinking skills.

The New Homeland Security Program at KIHS and QACHS kicked off the school year with a look at how terrorism can impact all citizens.  The students are learning with a curriculum program that has been written in collaboration with Baltimore County and Harford County public schools.   Students will work with emergency management systems and other agencies to evaluate real life situations.  They will become proficient in problem solving, analyzing issues, and the course will  introduce students to governmental and humanitarian response mechanisms for natural and man-made disasters. Students research and report on a variety of organizations, including the Red Cross, FEMA, and more; as an extension, students learn about locally- and regionally-based resources like the National Guard.
