The GRACIE Project is a group of fifth and fourth graders who meet every Thursday morning prior to the school day. The goal of the group is to raise awareness on environmental issues that affect both our student body and our community. These endeavors enabled Grasonville Elementary School to be certified as a Green School with the State of Maryland, the first one on the Eastern Shore.
The GRACIE Project was conceptualized by Mr Richardson. This is our second year and we continue to grow. We were awarded two grants: one from 'Keep Maryland Beautiful' which allowed us to create an outdoor classroom focusing on native plants; and the second grant from Chesapeake Bay Trust which allowed us to create a wetland learning center which is located behind the back of the school. Both places will enable the teachers to engage the students in hands on learning.
