Miss Deborah Scott

Hello! My name is Debbie Scott and I am the media specialist at Centreville Elementary School. I am a lifelong resident of the county and am proud to say that I attended Queen Anne's County schools from kindergarten through high school.

I have never considered any profession other than teaching. This is not surprising since my mother and both grandmothers were teachers, as well. My maternal grandmother taught until she was 72 years old!! Although I am proud to say that I have followed in their footsteps, I truly doubt that I will still be teaching when I'm 72!!

After high school, I attended Chesapeake College and Salisbury State College. I graduated in 1977 and began my teaching career in Grasonville Elementary School in first grade. After 8 years in that position, I transferred to Centreville Elementary School and have been in this school ever since, both as a first grade teacher and now as the media specialist. This is my 41st year of working in the Queen Anne's County School system.

My transfer to the media center came about as result of my love of literature. My favorite activity as a first grade teacher was sharing books with my students. I decided that as a media specialist, I could share that love of stories every day - with all of the children - and perhaps have an impact in creating lifelong readers. Lifelong learners are created from those who enjoy the process of reading and look forward to relationships with all types of reading materials.

Now on a personal note! I live in Church Hill with my three "FURRY" kids - two cats named Magic and Gracie, and  a Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Izzy. She keeps things very interesting around the house! In my spare time, I love to travel, sing in the church choir, spend time with my friends and - of course - READ! I love watching NASCAR racing and try to attend races with my friends whenever possible. Of course, going to a race means snacks and tailgating. Twizzers and M & M Peanuts are a must for a good race. I am a HUGE fan of Tony Stewart and have been lucky enough to meet him several times over the past few years. I even have an autographed picture we had taken together when I met him at the Indianapolis Aquarium. It is proudly displayed on my desk, so stop by and take a look.

I am very proud of our school, especially the media center here at CES. I look forward to spending several more years sharing stories and my love of literature with the children attending here.
