• A Professional Development School (PDS) is a collaboratively planned and implemented partnership for the academic and clinical preparation of interns and the continuous professional development of both school system and institution of higher education (IHE) faculty.  The focus of the PDS partnership is improved student performance through research-based teaching and learning. A PDS may involve a single or multiple schools, school systems and IHEs and may take many forms to reflect specific partnership activities and approaches to improving both teacher education and Pre-Kindergarten through12th grade schools.

Currently, Queen Anne’s County Public Schools is in collaboration with Kent County Public Schools and Washington College.  PDS in QAC is comprised of elementary and secondary schools.  Interns from Washington College are placed in several of our schools each semester.  The ultimate goal is to produce high quality teachers that will eventually work in our QAC or Kent County school systems, and to also provide QAC teachers with a positive working relationship to benefit all of our students.  In the collaboration process, there has been a very successful rate of hire of the Washington College interns.
