Mrs. Melissa Allen

I am so excited to start my second year at Matapeake Elementary.  Last year was a successful first year and I feel like the students and teachers at Matapeake have become an essential part of my life.  I am passionate about teaching young children and helping to build a firm foundation that will lead to many successful school years to come.  As an early educator, I believe it is my job to not only prepare my students academically, but to help shape them both socially and emotionally.   My goal this year is to instill important life skills and values that will support our schools anchor expectations of showing respect, exhibit responsibility, and making safe choices.  Of course, while we are doing this, we will be having FUN, FUN, FUN.   I hope that each child will LOVE school when they leave my class each day.

On a personal note, I live here in Stevensville, with my husband and two sons.  My sons attend Matapeake Elementary and are in fourth grade and second grade.  We love living on Kent Island and we take full advantage of island living with lots of boating, fishing, crabbing and spending time on the water.   In the winter you will usually find us skiing each weekend.

I started my carreer after graduating from Towson Universtity in 2001.  I taught second grade in Baltimore County before we moved and started our family.  I took a break from my carreer when I had my children and was very happy to stay at home with them when they were young.  When my children started school, I also did, as well.   Recenty, before teaching at Matapeake, I taught at Little Lambs Preschool, then moved to Kent Island Elementary as a math tutor.  Last year was my first year at Matapeake, as the Pre K teacher.  I am thrilled to move to Kindergarten and work with a wonderful team of teachers.

I am always available if you have any questions or concerns.  I will respond to e-mails as quickly as possible.  Again, I am excited about the upcoming school year and am looking forward to teaching another crop of amazing students.
