Technology is exploding in our middle schools! All students in grades 6 - 8 kicked off our 1-to-1 device initiative in the 2014-2015 school year when they received a personal Chromebook. They have become adept technology users by accessing the digital elements of their textbooks, interacting with their teachers and peers on Google Classroom and creating rich, multi-media projects. Teachers are integrating appropriate instructional tools such as Kahoot, Padlet, Go Formative, etc.
Since QACPS is a Google Apps for Education (GAFE) county, all students are issued an email address with a unique Google address: @student.qacps.org. Their email address only works within the QACPS system. Students can only email someone who has a @qacps.org or @student.qacps.org email address, so you will not be able to email your children at school. This restriction is to help ensure your child's online safety.
Teachers are also stressing the importance of Digital Citizenship within their teaching to ensure that students are continuing to build a positive digital footprint. As we know, middle school students are very savvy with social media, but we must purposefully instruct them on how to use technology for instructional purposes. Posters such as the one below will be posted in middle schools to remind students about the digital footprint they are creating.Below are some helpful resources concerning our 1-to-1 initiative:
