Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Jennifer L. Schrecongost
It is a tremendous honor to have been appointed Acting Principal at Matapeake Elementary School! I hope to share a bit about my educational background and the experiences which have prepared me for this important role.
I graduated from Towson University in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Education and started my career teaching reading and language arts in Caroline County. I earned a Master of Education degree in 1997 in school counseling from Loyola College, and earned my administrative certification from Salisbury University in 2011.
I enter my twenty-first year in education and have served Queen Anne’s County Public Schools since 2005. I have worked as a classroom teacher, a school counselor, and most recently, an assistant principal at Stevensville Middle School. I am also a staunch proponent of public education, and have partnered with the Maryland State Department of Education to receive and deliver professional development as a Master Teacher of Leadership, presenting widely to educators across the state.
These experiences have afforded me the opportunity to lead teachers in the use of formative and summative assessment data to inform instruction for specific monitoring of student achievement, as well as the drive to ensure students enter a school where they are safe, welcome, and valued. I am committed to encouraging teacher leadership and development through regular classroom observation and feedback and teacher-led professional development opportunities.
I am highly qualified in the areas of Early Childhood, Elementary, and Special Education, as well as English to Speakers of Other Languages, Middle School English/Language Arts, English 7-12, School Counseling, and Administration. These certifications present me with a clear understanding of child development, diverse learning, and the responsibilities of public schools to ensure students’ are college and career ready while inspiring them to love learning.
My husband, John, is the principal of Kent Island High School, and we live in Queenstown with our sons. The boys have attended public schools in Queen Anne’s County since Pre-Kindergarten and are entering their senior and junior years at Kent Island High School. I am frequently found on the sidelines of many Buccaneer sporting events, including soccer, football, wrestling, basketball, tennis, and baseball. It is always a pleasure to run into our MES students in the community and enjoy visitng with their families. I look forward to seeing you soon!
