Language Development<\/h2>\n<\/div><!--  gold-divider-block -->\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Welcome! I am Belinda Boeshore, A.K.A. \u201cMs. B.\u201d, the Speech Language Pathologist at CES.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Tips for Speech and Language Development<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Articulation: The typical progression of sound development (please keep in mind, we all learn in<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">different ways and at different rates):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Producing sounds in isolation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Producing sounds in the initial position of words, final position of words, medial position of words (in that order)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Producing sounds in phrases<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Producing sounds in sentences<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Producing sounds in conversational speech\/connected speech<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>To Promote Language Development<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Introduce new vocabulary from books, stories, pictures, family trips<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use photos from birthdays and\/or family trips to form sentences<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ask questions (who, what, where, when, why, how)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>For Dysfluency<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Encourage the student to slow down and think about their answer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Encourage the child to take a breath before talking<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Try not to interrupt<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Try not to finish their thoughts for them<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>For Voice<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Encourage the student to drink a lot of water<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Not to scream or yell<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Not to speak in silly voices<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Overall Communication Development<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Using objects, gestures, pointing, picture symbols, pictures, verbalizations, and\/or handover-hand assistance are helpful for children to learn ways to communicate with the world around them<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Model, Model, Model what you want them to learn, say and do!
