Pre-Kindergarten Program

The Pre-K Program aims to nurture the essential skills that children need to succeed both academically and socially. In accordance with COMAR guidelines, QACPS provides Pre-K services to children who are economically disadvantaged, experiencing homelessness, have a disability, or whose primary language is not English, and who turn four by September 1.

Through this program, children will:

• Interact with people, environments, and objects in meaningful, respectful ways
• Express themselves through various methods, sharing experiences and ideas while interpreting messages
• Foster curiosity and develop a habit of seeking information
• Build self-confidence and a sense of personal achievement
• Connect new knowledge with prior learning to deepen understanding
• Incorporate movement and play as essential tools for exploration and growth
• Develop positive social behaviors and effective communication skills

Children who will be four years old by September 1 and reside in Queen Anne’s County are eligible to apply for the Pre-K program.

The enrollment process will be conducted online. After enrolling, each child will undergo a screening to assess their level of school readiness. Screening dates will be determined by the school once enrollment is complete. A child will not be considered for a spot until their enrollment is fully processed with all required documents submitted.

To begin your online enrollment, please have the following documents ready:

• Child’s birth certificate
• Completed Immunization and Health Inventory forms
• Lead testing form
• Income verification documentation
• Proof of residency (one of the following):
  • Electric, gas, or water bill
  • Property tax/real estate bill
  • Lease or rental agreement
  • Contract of sale (including settlement or mortgage statement)
  • Homeowners/Renters insurance statement/policy

Pre-K is an eligibility-based program, so income documentation is required for enrollment. You will complete the income-eligibility form during the application process. Please upload the following:

• Federal Income Tax Return (1040 form) along with documentation of other income sources (e.g., child support, rental income)
• W-2 form
• C/1099 forms
• Notarized letter of no income
• Notarized employment letter
• Military income documentation
• Current award letter for Temporary Cash Assistance
• Proof of unemployment benefits

Tier I Students:

The Pre-K Expansion grant under the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, ensures Tier I students are guaranteed acceptance into Pre-K. Tier I includes:

• Economically disadvantaged students
• Students experiencing homelessness
• Students with an IEP for any disability, including speech

Notification of Enrollment

Enrollment notifications for eligible students will be sent from the schools.  If there are available spots after all eligible students have been enrolled, parents of students who were not initially considered eligible may be given the opportunity to enroll.

In order to request early admission to prekindergarten, the following requirements are considered:

• Your child will turn four between September 2 and October 14 of the current school year 
• Your child may meet income eligibility requirements
• Your child demonstrates developmental delays or is at risk for developmental delays as identified in an IEP or IFSP.

Early entrance to prekindergarten does not mean automatic entry into kindergarten the following year. Children who qualify for entrance to prekindergarten are eligible for two years of a prekindergarten experience or may request early entrance to Kindergarten and complete the process.
