About QACPS Elementary Education
The elementary program is a rigorous, comprehensive program that addresses the needs of the whole child. We are currently transitioning from the Maryland State Curriculum to the Maryland Common Core State Standards (MCCSS).
Students receive instruction in reading, math, science, social studies, physical education, art, media, and music. Parent-teacher conferences take place twice each year, and students receive Elementary Progress Reports each marking period.
The following curricular materials are used:
- Reading/Language Arts McGraw-Hill 2014 Wonders Series
- Success For All (Grasonville Elementary only)
- enVision MATH
- Science Discovery Works Grades 1st-3rd
- Scott Foresman Science Grades 4th&5th
- Social Studies Harcourt Brace
Students also receive instruction in music, art, media, and physical education.
Elementary Progress Reports
QACPS uses a standards-based progress report with trimester reporting.
Schools print copies of the progress report to send home each marking period and will continue to have parent conferences twice a year.
