Math

The mathematics program in Queen Anne’s County Public Schools has been developed to provide quality learning experiences that promote deep understanding of mathematics to build confidence in mathematical reasoning and communication. The curricula for each grade band are aligned with the Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards.  Our curriculum integrates the Standards of Math Practices with content throughout each course.

Teachers and specialists align resources to support varied learning experiences for students. The curriculum is student-centered and designed with different learners in mind. Instruction provides the opportunity to learn mathematics through inquiry and exploration.

Queen Anne’s County Public Schools believes that all students have the capacity to utilize mathematical ideas to analyze and solve problems in real world contexts.  Educators provide daily opportunities for students to engage in grade level standards through rigorous tasks that are designed to engage thinking and opportunities for student to student transmission of knowledge.

The math department of Queen Anne’s County schools, including teachers, specialists, and administrative leaders, promote an environment where students develop the tools to be successful in college or career bound tracks through exposure to engaging opportunities in high quality curriculum, tailored instruction, and mathematical discourse.

i-Ready is an online and text tool for students in grades Kindergarten – 7th grade.

All grade levels have access to the full classroom spectrum of iReady materials.  Students take diagnostic tests to determine their areas of greatest strength and areas in need of most development and creates a tailored series of lessons to help them close gaps in comprehension while mastering grade level content.

Students have access to their consumable textbooks on paper and fully online. Mainpulatives, graphing calculators and geometry tools, and other visuals are provided within the platform for easy access.

Savvas enVision is an online tool used by students in 8th Grade Math and Algebra I. This platform provides student access to textbooks in Algebra 1 and consumable workbooks with examples, practice, and extension problems in 8th grade.  In addition, both courses have access to an online platform which provides real world applications of standards as well as manipulatives and calculators to assist them in mastering content.

Illustrative Mathematics is an MSDE approved high-quality instructional material that engages students in problem-based application of mathematics. The approach provides students with a rigorous, but balanced approach to grade level standards with resources to provide for the diverse student needs using the curriculum.

Queen Anne’s County Public Schools currently uses Illustrative Mathematics blended with supplemental resources to support instruction in the following courses:

• Geometry & Honors Geometry
• Algebra II (CCR), Honors Algebra II (CCR)
• Algebra II (CCR) – Part 1 & Algebra II (CCR) – Part 2

Illustrative Mathematics 360 (IM 360) is a high-quality math curriculum that helps all students build a strong understanding of mathematics. Rather than focusing only on memorizing steps and formulas, IM 360 encourages students to think critically, solve real problems, explain their reasoning, and make connections between different math concepts.

The lessons are designed to keep students actively engaged in learning and promote collaborative problem solving in mathematics. Students are encouraged to explore ideas, learn from mistakes, and develop confidence in their mathematical abilities. The curriculum also provides teachers with strong resources and support to help meet the needs of diverse learners.

By combining challenging content with meaningful learning experiences, IM 360 helps students develop the skills and understanding they need for success in school and beyond.
