• I am looking forward to beginning my (lucky!) 13th year as a School Counselor, and my second year as the Counselor for the SOARing students & families of SES! I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in English, Sociology, and Education from Western Maryland College; a Master’s Degree in School Counseling from the University of Delaware; and the Nationally Certified Counselor credential. I reside in Kent County, MD with my husband, daughter, and spoiled cat! I enjoy the arts, spending time with friends, sewing ragdolls, reading, live music, and playing board games.

I work hand-in-hand with each of our teachers and as part of the School Leadership Team to ensure that your child is as healthy, happy, and successful as they can be; and to help remove the barriers that stand in the way of their health, wellbeing, and achievement. Most of the time I can personally help you and/or your child, but sometimes I may not be the individual best qualified to help in a situation. In these cases, my job is to help connect you with the person or resource who can! I work with students individually, in groups, and in their classrooms on a regular basis. My classroom lessons are designed to foster the social skills that ensure academic and interpersonal success; helping students develop empathy for one another, work cooperatively, manage difficult emotional states, resolve conflict peacefully, and persevere when faced with challenges!

I serve as a Coach for and member of our school's PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports) Team, whose members help ensure that ALL students attending SES have access to learning environments that support academic success & universal behavioral instruction based upon our SOAR (Safety/Organization/Active Learning/Respect) expectations; supportive services for students experiencing academic and/or behavioral challenges; and targeted interventions for those students in need of intensive support.

I am the coordinator for our school's Character Counts! program, which seeks to instill the value of positive character in each of our students. I facilitate the placement of community-based mentors who wish to serve as Character Coaches. Character Coaches visit our classrooms weekly to deliver lessons based upon the Six Pillars of Character: Trustworthiness, Respect, Caring, Responsibility, Citizenship, and Fairness.
