The mission of the Transportation Department is to provide safe, timely, efficient transportation that contributes to a positive learning environment through staff and drivers committed to excellence and continuous improvement.
The Department of Transportation is responsible for safe, effective, timely and economical transportation of students. It is also responsible for planning, monitoring, and coordinating daily operations, training of all over-the-road personnel, and inspection of equipment.
Approximately 7,800 students are enrolled in Queen Anne’s County Public Schools this year and a large majority of these students will be riding the familiar yellow school bus.
Drivers of all school buses are thoroughly trained and qualified individuals. During each school year, the drivers participate in in-service programs to improve driving skills and improve pupil behavior management. New drivers complete a detailed, comprehensive program including individualized on-road training. All drivers are evaluated by an observation on a regular basis. All drivers are subject to pre-employment drug testing, pre-employment criminal background checks, random drug and alcohol testing, post accident drug and alcohol testing as well as reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing, and drivers must also have a satisfactory MVA driving record history.
