Dear GES Students and their families,

It is hard to believe that it is less than a month before school will begin on Tuesday, September 5th.  Our school is ready for students!  Our custodians have worked tirelessly cleaning all summer and making sure that everything is in order for the first day of school.  We have had many staff members working on new and exciting lessons in Reading, Math, Social Studies and Science for you .

I am excited to tell you that we have all new Science materials to use this school year. We have also purchased the updated Getting Along Together Program which is a part of the Success For All Reading program so that we can continue to focus on cooperative learning throughout the day and working together to help each other learn. In Math, we will be working with a program called Number Talks that will help us to have better discussions about the math work that we do each day.

Our GES Addition project will get underway in September and the new wing of classrooms will be completed by next August, 2018 even though the start of the project has been delayed from the original start date of July, 2017.   We will have a new portable which will house the Music Room for the first couple of months of school as they complete work in the Music Room and Stage as a part of the addition project.  We will lose our playground for a few months as it is relocated  but we are fortunate that the Head Start/Shore Up housed in the building next to GES is willing to let us use their playground area and field until our area is ready to be used again.

I am certain that we will have a great year at GES this year.  The building is a little lonely in the summer and I can not wait to fill the classroom and hallways with each of our students.  On Thursday, August 31st we will have a Meet and Greet for all returning students in Grades 1 to 5 from 3-5 PM.  This will give each child and their family an opportunity to locate their classroom, meet their teacher and drop off any supplies so that bookbag is not so heavy on the first day of school.  Any new students to the school are invited to a New Student Orientation on August 31st from 2-3 PM in the Media Center.  Our PreK and Kindergarten students will have conferences with their teachers on Wednesday, September 6th and Thursday, September 7th.

If you have any questions or concerns before school starts, please contact me at 410-827-8070 or by email carol.kamp@qacps.org.  I am looking forward to a great year!

    Sincerely,

    Carol M. Kamp
