The PTA at CHES works to promote the welfare of our children in the home, the school, and the community.  It is a combined effort of all parents, teachers, and administrators.  Membership is open to all parents, staff, and any adults who are interested in the objectives of the PTA. Please consider joining the CHES PTA.  Annual dues are $6 or $10 for a family membership.

    Reading is Fun (RIF)
CHES and the PTA are committed to encouraging our students to become independent readers that find reading to be an enjoyable activity of choice. To support that goal, we are proud sponsors of our own Reading is Fun program.  The program was implemented in 2004 and since 2005 each child has received 10 books to take home and enjoy. This has had a direct impact on the attitude of our children towards reading. Research shows, repetitive reading enhances fluency, which in turn increases comprehension.  Students that reread passages increase fluency, but more importantly they find they like reading even more! The more they do it, the better they get.  The better they get, the more they like it.  The more they like it , they more they do it, etc.

This program is costly. Please continue to support our PTA fundraisers so they we can fund this project for the entire year. Any additional donations that you would like to make earmarked to the purchase of additional books would be greatly appreciated. You can send donations to school in an envelope marked "RIF".

Students are also able to swap books for new ones in the cafeteria during their lunch time. If you and your family have finished books that are in good condition and could be shared with others, please allow your child to swap their books for new ones. If some are outgrown subjects or titles, someone else may just be waiting for that book. Keep the books flowing!
