The Maryland Retired School Personnel Association, through its MRSPA Foundation Fund, offered 6 Mini-Grants to classroom teachers across the state of Maryland. The grants awarded were up to $300 and to be used on special projects or activities that are not funded through the school system or Parent/Teacher Organizations.  The grant opportunity was offered in October to all Queen Anne’s County teachers.

Kennard Elementary School’s Megan Borga applied for one of these grants and won.  She was presented with the $300 check in December by MRSPA President, Richard McNeil.  Ms. Borga plans on using the funds to take her students to a nearby care facility and brighten their day with smiles, cards, and children’s laughter.  Ms. Borga says, “It is important for children to respect our elders and know there are a lot of people that could just use a smile, a card, or a hug.  It will be a great opportunity for the students to see what a small gesture of kindness can do.”

QACPS Superintendent shared, “We are thrilled Ms. Borga applied for this grant and is teaching students the importance of kindness.  Thank you to MRSPA for creating such a meaningful grant providing a wonderful opportunity to our students.”
