KENT ISLAND—The Kent Island Summer Theatre Camp showcased back-to-back performances for rising Kindergarten through 6th graders and current 7th through 12th graders, culminating in two outstanding performances for packed crowds at Kent Island High School.
The first musical production was Disney’s “Finding Nemo, Kids!” followed by Disney’s “Alice in Wonderland.” Three performances took place on Wednesday, July 10th, and Thursday, July 11th at Kent Island High School. David Cherry, a 5th-grade teacher at Matapeake Elementary, directed Alice in Wonderland, Jr., while Elise Parks, a former standout Theatre graduate from Kent Island High, directed Finding Nemo, Kids. Kevin Reagan, Theatre teacher at KIHS hosted the camp.

“I am so proud to be part of the creative team of directors,” shared Mr. Cherry. “The experience of directing Alice In Wonderland was a dream come true. I was so impressed with all of the young actors’ creativity and collaboration.”

Elise Parks said, “Working on Nemo was such a gratifying experience. Every morning I got to wake up and help teach young ones how to love themselves through art and self-expression. That opportunity was so transformative for me growing up, and I’m so happy I got to give that to others. I am so unbelievably proud of my fish under the sea!”

Looking ahead, there will be more excitement this year at the high school level with a dynamic new course offering entitled “Musical Theatre” coming to both QACPS high schools, aiming to expand students’ love for the performing arts.
