Queen Anne’s County Public Schools’ Superintendent, Dr. Patricia Saelens, would like to announce the acceptance of the grant proposal for the Maryland Leads Grant through the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). The grant was shared in February to “… support Local Education Agencies (LEAs) in utilizing more than $150 million in federal funds to overcome the learning loss resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, accelerate student learning to narrow opportunity and achievement gaps, and provide more targeted support for historically underserved students and their communities. Maryland Leads also attends to the longstanding need to establish and strengthen teacher pipelines and development.”

The 7 strategies included in the grant are:
– Grow Your Own
– Staff Support and Retention
– High Quality School Day Tutoring
– Reimagining the Use of Time
– Innovative School Models
– Transforming Neighborhoods through Excellent Community Schools and
– Science of Reading

QACPS’ team wrote a proposal for ALL 7 strategies to enhance programming and support in the district. Dr. Patrica Saelens states, “I am over the moon excited to share the approval of Queen Anne’s County’s application for the Maryland Leads Grant. It was a far reach to apply for all 7 strategies, kudos to the team for all their efforts. This will bring the district millions of dollars over the next two years.”

Details will be presented at the Board of Education meeting on June 15, 2022.
