Each year, the U.S. Department of Education honors the National Blue Ribbon Schools at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. On November 17, 2023, Matapeake Elementary School (MES) Principal Carrie Mitten, MES Assistant Principal Sarah White, Church Hill Elementary School (CHES) Principal Susan Walbert, and CHES Teacher Specialist Stacey Deighan, were honored at the Ceremony. Both schools received a plaque and flag to signify their exemplary status that will hang in their respective schools. With this honor, MES and CHES serve as examples for other schools throughout the nation.
The National Blue Ribbon Schools (NBRS) Program is one of the U.S. Department of Education’s longest-running recognition programs. NBRS recognizes outstanding public and non-public elementary, middle, and high schools based on their overall high academic achievement or success in closing the achievement gap among diverse groups of students. Since its inception in 1982, the goals of the program are to shine a spotlight on the best schools in the United States and to share best practices of outstanding schools across the country.
Congratulations to MES and CHES staff and students on this prestigious honor!
