2024-25 Pre-K and Kindergarten Enrollment Tips – Please read!

2024-25 PK Enrollment guidelines poster

Pre-K is a non-mandatory program for children who will be four years of age as of September 1, 2024. Kindergarten is a mandatory program for children who will be five years of age as of September 1, 2024. The enrollment process is essentially the same for both, with the exception being that Kindergarten enrollments DO NOT require the household income documentation forms.

Please monitor https://www.qacps.org/student-services/student-support-services/#registration-pk for the opening of the registration period.  It is planned to open in mid-March.  Enrollment applications are all online and require you to upload documents; the list of required documents is on that website and on the attached flyer.

Step 1) use the “Click Here to Find Out Which School Your Child Will Attend” to confirm which school’s zone serves your home address. You must enroll in your home zone school as  QACPS does not offer open enrollment.

Step 2) use the “My Child Will be a NEW Student in QACPS starting in August 2024” button, even if your child has previously received speech or itinerant services. Be careful not to use the 2023-24 button.

Step 3) be sure to choose “Pre-Kindergarten” (NOT Pre-School) within the enrollment form if you are applying for Pre-K. In the drop-down menu, choose the school that your address confirmed from Step 1.

Step 4) be sure to upload all required documents. (For Pre-K registrations, the income form must list everyone living in the household, including the Pre-K child and any other children, and must include the income of anyone in the household who is earning income or receiving benefits.) Please do not upload photographs of documents if at all possible as they do not print legibly… scan them instead. If your documents are not legible, you will need to bring the original documents to the school. Please contact our office if you need assistance in completing your online registration.

After the online enrollment has been submitted, you may contact MES at 410-643-3105 or email [email protected] to schedule an April screening which will be used to help determine each child’s level of school readiness.  Students will not be considered eligible for a spot until their enrollment is complete with all documents uploaded and all screenings completed.

Pre-K: The overall goal of the Pre-K program is to help children develop and maintain the basic skills necessary to be successful in school. In accordance with COMAR requirements, QACPS provides Pre-K for all students who have reached the age of 4 by September 1, 2024 and who are from families that are economically disadvantaged, experiencing homelessness, have an IEP or a disability, or who speak a language other than English as their primary language in the home. Applicants who are not in these categories will be waitlisted and should anticipate that it will be at least mid-July before hearing whether or not there will be space available for their student. Space is very limited and is not on a first-come / first-served basis.  We encourage families to consider alternate plans in the event that your child cannot be enrolled.
