I am going into my third year of teaching ELA at Matapeake Middle School. I come from Virginia where I taught for 12 years and bring those years of expertise and wisdom with me. I started out in upstate New York where I was born and moved to Oklahoma at a young age and where I spent most of my time. I have lived in Colorado and Virginia and now I love living on the Eastern Shore in Church Hill. After school, I am the Head Coach for the Varsity Dance Team at Kent Island High School.

I am originally from Saratoga Springs, NY but have lived on Kent Island for 22 years. My goal for this year is to help students persevere by encouraging them to put in the effort, even though the task may be difficult. Developing student perseverance is a catalyst in becoming an independent learner.

Ms. Susangrace DuBose began her education career over two decades ago as an educator of children
performing in Broadway productions. Over the last 11 years, she has been privileged to work with the
dynamic, diverse school community of Prince George’s County Public Schools as a classroom teacher,
counselor, Special Education Specialist, and Online Education Administrator. Joining the QACPS team in
2019, she has worked as an Administrator for the Virtual Learning Academy, and most recently as a
School Counselor since 2020.
Having always had a passion for education, Susangrace has worked with children at all grade levels and
understands that no two children learn in the same way. She takes pride in her innovation and problem
solving skills to find solutions that work for students as individuals, and views educating the whole child
as the essential task of public education.
Ms. DuBose holds an Advanced Professional Certificate in the state of Maryland in 14 subject areas. She
earned her Bachelor of Arts in English and Secondary Education from Oklahoma City University. Ms.
DuBose has sought to actively continue her post-secondary studies in order to build and maintain skills
that allow her to effectively serve her students; she has obtained a Master of Arts in Education and
Human Development with certification in School Counseling as well as an Education Specialist (Ed. S)
degree in Special Education and Administration from The George Washington University. A southerner
at heart, Ms. DuBose currently lives in Annapolis and is thrilled to join the MMS team.
Heather Hopkins Roberts is excited to join Queen Anne's County Public Schools and Matapeake Middle School. As she begins her first year at Matapeake Ms. Hopkins is excited to interact, inspire and engage with students, families and community.
In 2000, Ms. Hopkins began working for the North Carolina schools as a professional school counselor. In 2005, Ms. Hopkins and her family relocated to Maryland where she worked as a school counselor for CH Flowers High School in Prince George's County. In 2008, she joined Dorchester Schools as a school counselor.
Ms. Hopkins grew up in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania just outside of Philadelphia. She obtained her undergraduate degree at Cheyney University and her Masters in Counseling from Eastern University.
Ms. Hopkins is excited and eager to join the Matapeake Stingrays family and work with such a wonderful group of dedicated educators, students, and parents. She is committed to helping all students reach their full potential.
In her personal time, Ms. Hopkins enjoys running, cycling, the beach and spending time with her husband, two daughters and their dogs. She is looking forward to a wonderful year.
