• Teacher & Administrator Hiring Information


    Thank you for your interest in a career with Queen Anne’s County Public Schools.  Below is a brief outline of our employment and hiring process for new teachers and professional staff.

     Step 1: Submit an application online

     Step 2:  Screening

    All applications are reviewed by Human Resources to determine if the person meets the requirements for the position.  Applications are then reviewed by principals and their administrative staff to determine the most suitable candidates for current and anticipated vacancies.

    Step 3:  Interviews

    When a vacancy occurs, interviews are scheduled for applicants whose qualifications and experience make them the most suitable for the position. Candidates are interviewed by a minimum of two administrators or supervisors. Interviews are typically scheduled at the school where the vacancy exists. After candidates are interviewed the committee makes a hiring recommendation to the Human Resources Officer. Candidates may be called for second interviews or may be interviewed by a panel if multiple positions of the same type are available or anticipated.  Individuals not recommended for a specific vacancy will be notified by mail and will continue to be considered for future positions.

    Step 4:  Appointment

    Appointment to a position is made after a candidate has verbally accepted a contract offer from the Human Resources Officer and has signed an offer letter.  When the offer of employment is made, a tentative salary placement is determined based on available information from the applicant. Final salary placement is based upon verification of prior years of experience and receipt of official transcripts, test scores and certifications. New teachers are not placed higher than step 10 on the Certificated Unit I salary schedule even if they have more than 10 years of teaching experience.  Employment is also conditional upon satisfactory reports from background checks.

    Step 5:  Orientation

    New employees will be invited to an orientation where they are provided with information regarding employment verification, tax forms, direct deposit sheet, medical plan options and enrollment, worker’s compensation, Maryland State Retirement Agency plans, and other important information. New teachers are required to attend a week-long orientation in August. Mentor teachers will be assigned to new teachers as a resources throughout the first year of employment.
