QACPS Participates in Statewide Safety Exercise

Safety and Security: Queen Anne's County Public Schools - Where Our Future Begins

On May 10, 2024, Queen Anne’s County Public Schools participated in a statewide school-based incident tabletop exercise facilitated by the Maryland Center for School Safety. The exercise simulated an active assailant event in the community that impacted schools. This discussion-based training exercise aimed to test the coordination of efforts between emergency responders and school officials.

The following agencies met at the Queen Anne’s County Board of Education Central Office Building to participate in the exercise: Queen Anne’s County Department of Emergency Services, Social Services, Health Department, Maryland Transportation Authority Police, Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police, Centreville Police Department, and representatives from the Queen Anne’s County Public School District.

The success of this exercise exemplifies Queen Anne’s County’s proactive stance in addressing the evolving challenges of school safety. Moving forward, the county remains steadfast in its dedication to fostering a culture of safety, resilience, and preparedness within its educational institutions.

“We are proud to demonstrate our unwavering commitment to school safety,” remarked Dr. Saelens, Superintendent of Schools. “By working collaboratively and proactively, we can ensure that our schools remain safe havens for learning and growth.”
