Health and Wellness programs brought to QACPS

Centreville, MD – Queen Anne’s County Public Schools (QACPS) Office of Student Support Services partnered with the Eastern Shore Area Health Education Center, the Queen Anne’s County Department of Health, the Queen Anne’s County Commissioners, and United Way this spring to deliver powerful programs addressing important health and wellness issues facing students today.

Throughout March and April, students across QACPS had the opportunity to hear from expert speakers who tackled critical topics such as vaping prevention, tobacco risks, and building resilience:

  • On March 24th and April 27th, Caitlin Donohue-Vega, Oral Health Outreach Coordinator from the Eastern Shore Area Health Education Center, spoke to 10th-grade students at Kent Island High School and Queen Anne’s County High School about the significant health risks associated with vaping.
  • On April 8th and 9th, Sterlen Barr from Rapping About Prevention (R.A.P.) (nopuffdaddy.com) brought an engaging, interactive performance to all 6th-grade students. His high-energy presentation focused on the dangers of tobacco use and vaping, using music and performance to connect with students.
  • From April 22nd to April 25th, motivational speaker Eddie Cortes delivered an important message to elementary and middle school students about the power of Resiliency. Cortes emphasized that resilience—the ability to recover from challenges and setbacks—is not just a “soft skill” but a critical “superpower” that students can develop to navigate life’s obstacles.

Queen Anne’s County Public Schools extends sincere thanks to the Queen Anne’s County Commissioners, the Queen Anne’s County Department of Health, and the United Way for their continued support of the Safety Net Committee and their commitment to providing students with access to valuable educational programs.
