• 90 Minute Delayed Opening for an Emergency or Inclement Weather

    School Activities

    Before-school activities at schools -- including practices, performances, clubs, and athletic events - are canceled when Queen Anne’s County Public Schools have a 90 minute delayed opening for an emergency or inclement weather.  Field trips are permitted to depart after the 90 minute delay.

    On a “90 Minute Delayed Opening for an Emergency or Inclement Weather” day:

    The following employees REPORT TO WORK thirty (30) minutes before students scheduled arrival time on school property:

    • Certified Unit I - 10-month employees (Teachers)
    • Certified Unit I – 11-month employees
    • Support Unit I – Nurses, Secretaries, School Assistants all other 207 & 215 day employees

    The following employees REPORT TO WORK sixty (60) minutes after their regular start time:

    • Non School Based Unit Members

    The following employees SHALL REPORT TO WORK ON TIME OR AT THE DISCRETION OF THEIR SUPERVISOR:

    • Emergency/Essential Employees: Support Unit II (Lead Custodians, Custodians I, Custodians II,  Maintenance, Driver Trainers)
    • Emergency/Essential Employees:  Support Unit III (Maintenance Foreman, Custodian Foreman)

    All Emergency/Essential Employees are expected to work their entire shift unless otherwise authorized by the Maintenance or Custodial Foreman.    

    Early School Closing for an Emergency or Inclement Weather

    School Activities

    After-school activities at schools -- including practices, performances, clubs, and athletic events - are canceled when Queen Anne’s County Public Schools close early for an emergency or inclement weather.  In the event that there is an active field trip on a day that school is closed early for inclement weather, buses will be notified to report back to their home school immediately.

    On an “Early School Closing for an Emergency or Inclement Weather” day:

    The following employees SHALL BE PERMITTED TO LEAVE WORK fifteen (15) minutes after the departure of the last school bus provided that there is available coverage by administration in the event that there are students who remain in the building:

    • Certified Unit I - 10-month employees (Teachers)
    • Certified Unit I – 11-month employees
    • Support Unit I – Nurses, Secretaries, School Assistants all other 207 & 215 day employees

    The following employees SHALL BE PERMITTED TO LEAVE WORK fifteen (15) minutes after the last school is dismissed:

    • Non School Based Unit Members

    The following employees SHALL REPORT TO WORK ON TIME OR AT THE DISCRETION OF THEIR SUPERVISOR:

    • Emergency or essential employees; Support Unit II (Lead Custodians, Custodians I, Custodians II,  Maintenance, Driver Trainers}
    • Emergency or essential employees:  Support Unit III (Maintenance Foreman, Custodian Foreman)

    All Emergency/Essential Employees are expected to work their entire shift unless otherwise authorized by the Maintenance or Custodial foreman.  Reporting times for 2nd Shift Custodians will be established by the Custodian Foreman. The Custodian Foreman will contact the Lead Custodian at each site who will then notify the 2nd Shift Custodians that work within that particular site of any changes to the normal reporting times.   



    Code Blue with Liberal Leave - All Schools Closed

    School/Office Closings

    All public schools in Queen Anne’s County will be closed for the day because of emergency conditions, but Central and school offices are open.  Employees with Annual Leave are free to use such leave on this day, without securing prior approval.

    School Activities

    After-school and evening activities at schools -- including practices, performances, clubs, and athletic events - are canceled when Queen Anne’s County Public Schools are closed due to inclement weather.

    On a “Code Blue with Liberal Leave” day:

    The following employees DO NOT REPORT TO WORK:

    • Certified Unit I - 10-month employees (Teachers)
    • Certified Unit I – 11-month employees
    • Support Unit I – Nurses, Secretaries, School Assistants all other 207 & 215 day employees
    • Support Unit II – County Bus Drivers

    The following employees SHALL REPORT TO WORK ON TIME OR AT THE DISCRETION OF THEIR SUPERVISOR:

    • Emergency or essential employees; Support Unit II (Lead Custodians, Custodians I, Custodians II,  Maintenance, Driver Trainers}
    • Emergency or essential employees:  Support Unit III (Maintenance Foreman, Custodian Foreman)

    All other employees shall report to their job assignments as soon as possible, but no later than one (1) hour after the usual reporting time.

    When Code Blue with Liberal Leave is in effect and the Central and Satellite Offices close at or before 12 noon, employees who chose not to report for work shall be required to use one-half day of leave.

    When Code Blue with Liberal Leave is in effect and the Central and Satellite Offices close after 12 noon, employees who chose not to report for work shall be required to use a full day of leave.

    Queen Anne’s County Public Schools is not responsible for an employee’s commute to and from work, or his/her decision to do so.  Should an employee determine that driving conditions are such that he/she cannot safely report to work, the employee must:

    • Notify their supervisor of the absence.
    • Use one day (or half-day) of annual leave (if the employee has an annual leave balance)  - or -
    • Lose one day (or half-day) pay (if the employee does not have an annual leave balance)

    Emergency/Essential Personnel may not use leave during closings for inclement weather conditions.  Emergency/Essential Personnel who do not report to work during these periods will be coded and respectively charged with a full day of “Unauthorized Leave Without Pay.”  If an employee who is an Emergency/Essential Personnel is sick, they must provide verification from a medical provider in order to be coded for an authorized “Sick Leave” day.  Pre-approved leave will be excluded from this directive.
