QACPS ANNOUNCES NEW SCHOOL ADMINISTRATOR ASSIGNMENTS FOR 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR

 

CENTREVILLE, MD – Queen Anne’s County Public Schools (QACPS) Superintendent Dr. Andrea M. Kane today announced new school administrator assignments, which were approved recently by the Board of Education for the 2019-2020 school year.

 

 “I am pleased to announce several key promotions and new assignments for the upcoming school year. Each makes us stronger as a school system,” Dr. Kane said.

 

Becky Tubman

To:  Assistant Principal, Sudlersville Middle School

From:  Teacher Specialist, Kent Island Elementary School                  

Mrs. Tubman was recently named Assistant Principal at Sudlersville MS. She started her career in Talbot County and entered the role with 22 years of educational experience, including 11 years with Queen Anne’s County Public Schools.

 

For the past four years, she worked as a Teacher Specialist at Kent Island Elementary School and was a Process Manager for the QACPS Early Learning and School Readiness Innovation Center team. She has served as the QACPS representative to the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Gifted and Talented briefings, a primary talent development curriculum writer for MSDE’s Open Educational Resources platform, facilitated the 2018-2019 Revised Primary Talent Development pilot for QACPS and participated in cultural proficiency and equity training. Mrs. Tubman also taught a course for new QACPS teachers and served on various teams at the school, county, and state levels, including the QACPS Teacher Evaluation Task Force and the School-wide Integrated Framework for Transformation (SWIFT) Leadership team during seven years teaching at Matapeake Elementary.

 

She was the 2003-2004 Talbot County Teacher of the Year and is thrilled to join the Sudlersville MS family. Mrs. Tubman said she looks forward to the relationships she will build with students, staff, and families to continue their inclusive approach to education where all students are genuinely valued, supported, and meaningfully engaged in learning. She received her Master’s Degree in Administration and Educational Leadership from Salisbury University and earned an Administrator I and II certification. Mrs. Tubman is married and has two children, including a recent graduate of Kent Island High School and a current Kent Island HS student.

 

Billie Brice

To:  Assistant Principal, Kent Island High School

From: Teacher, Stevensville Middle School                                     

Mrs. Brice was promoted to be an Assistant Principal at Kent Island HS. She is an eastern shore native and a proud graduate from Queen Anne’s County public schools. She taught eighth-grade science and automation and robotics at Matapeake Middle and Sudlersville Middle Schools. She also coached several sports teams, coordinated the Seizing Opportunities for Academic Resilience(SOAR) Academy program at Sudlersville MS, was team lead, actively participated in School Improvement Team and Parent Advisory Council meetings, plus helped design the eighth-grade science curriculum and assessment.  

 

Mrs. Brice began her teaching career as a science teacher and Teach for America Corps member in Prince George’s County. After her first year, she became the Positive Behavior Intervention School (PBIS) coordinator and supervised school-wide events. She led environmental education initiatives in two Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education (MAEOE) green-certified schools.

 

Mrs. Brice earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology and Chemistry at Washington College, a Master’s in Science Education and an Administration certificate from Johns Hopkins University. She was recently married. She and her husband live in Chestertown.\

 

 S. Matthew Evans

To:  QACPS Supervisor of Student Support Services

From: QACPS Pupil Personnel Worker                 

Mr. Evans was recently named the school system’s Supervisor of Student Support Services. He began his career in QACPS as a School Counselor at Stevensville Middle School in 2000 and implemented a comprehensive school counseling program focused on career, academic and social/emotional development. He also wrote a grant application funded by the University of Maryland School of Law to implement a conflict resolution program. 

 

After seven successful years at the middle school level, Mr. Evans served as a QACPS Pupil Personnel Worker for 12 years (2007-2019), facilitating Student Support Teams in seven schools and linking students and families to appropriate services and interventions. He was a primary contact for the QACPS Positive Behavioral Interventions Strategies (PBIS) program.  Mr. Evans served on multiple committees throughout the county and mid-shore. He currently co-chairs the Queen Anne’s County Safety Net Committee and chair of the suicide prevention sub-committee. 

 

Mr. Evans is a highly competent and motivated educator with a track record of success.  He works well with school staff, families and local agencies regarding challenging issues and is a team-player making the best interests of students a priority. Mr. Evans earned his Bachelor’s degree in psychology from Rollins College in 1994. He earned a Master’s in School Counseling from Frostburg State University in 2000 and received his Maryland Administrator I certificate in 2011.  Mr. Evans lives in Easton, MD with his wife and two children. 

 

Susangrace DuBose

To: Facilitator of the QACPS Virtual Learning Academy

Ms. DuBose will be the Facilitator of the school system’s new Virtual Learning Academy, which begins serving home-schooled students at the start of the new school year. For the last 11 years, she was a classroom teacher, counselor, special education specialist, and an online education administrator in Prince George’s County Public Schools. Ms. DuBose worked with children at all grade levels and understands no two children learn in the same way. 

 

She takes pride in her innovation and problem-solving skills to find solutions that work for students as individuals and views educating the whole child as the essential task of public education. Ms. DuBose started her education career more than two decades ago as an educator of children performing in Broadway productions.

 

Ms. DuBose holds advanced professional certificates in 14 subject areas. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in English and Secondary Education from Oklahoma City University. Ms. DuBose obtained a Master of Arts in Education and Human Development with certification in School Counseling, and an Education Specialist (Ed. S.) degree in Special Education and Administration from The George Washington University.
