Dear QACPS Families, Employees, and Community:

I am pleased to report we made great progress on the priorities established last school year and we will continue implementing the recommendations outlined in the Queen Anne’s County Public Schools (QACPS) Curriculum Management Audit during the 2019-20 school year. We will focus our efforts on three priorities:
● Building systemic capacity centered on equitable practices through our work with Equal Opportunity Schools at both high schools, culturally relevant instruction, and targeted learning goals designed to eliminate achievement gaps for student groups that are not yet meeting their full potential;
● Engaging the community and increasing communication centered on the budget process, early college opportunities, and youth apprenticeships; and
● Establishing systematic business practices and policy development procedures.
Schools open for students in grades 1-6, 9 (and 5 only at Sudlersville Middle) on September 3, 2019. Students in grades 7-8, 10-12 (and 6-8 only at Sudlersville Middle) will return to school on September 4, 2019. Pre-K and Kindergarten students start school on September 5, 2019. Please remember to complete all back to school forms and review all communications from your child’s school administrators. Important information such as school supply lists and calendars were posted on each school’s website. Information about bus routes will be posted on the QACPS website on the afternoon of August 23, 2019. New teachers began school today and all teachers return on August 26, 2019. Our first School Board meeting for the school year will be held on September 4, 2019, at 6:00 p.m. at Queen Anne’s County Board of Education, 202 Chesterfield Ave, Centreville, MD 21617.
Over the course of the 2019-20 school year, I will continue to engage with our students, employees, and parents via the Superintendent’s Advisory Councils. A call for new members is underway. Please contact your school principal for more information. Again, welcome back to school. I look forward to working with you to make this an exceptional school year!
