Dr. Andrea M. Kane Joins MAEOE Board of Directors

Baltimore, MD – Today, the Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education (MAEOE) announced that Andrea Kane, Ph.D., Superintendent of Schools, Queen Anne’s County Public Schools, MD has joined the organization’s Board of Directors. 

 

Andrea Kane connects environmental education to quality academics introducing  students to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), real-world learning opportunities, and conservation of natural resources. She was appointed Superintendent for Queen Anne’s County Public Schools in Maryland in July 2017. With more than 25 years of education experience, including ten years at the central office level, Dr. Kane has earned the characterization as a visionary leader. In collaboration with the school district, business, and community partners, Dr. Kane has been effective in leading large suburban, urban, and small rural districts. Dr. Kane is co-leader of the Superintendents’ Environmental Education Collaborative (SEEC), whose goal is to increase high-quality environmental education for students across the nation.

 

On June 1st, Queen Anne’s County Public Schools became the second school district in the state to have 100% participation in the Maryland Green Schools program. Calvert County Public Schools is the other 100% school district and has maintained this achievement since 2010. 

 

“We welcome Dr. Kane to MAEOE, she supports the work of the organization as the leader of Queen Anne’s Public Schools, and we look forward to her input as we grow the Maryland Green Schools program to 50% of all schools,” says Bob Hoyt, MAEOE Board Chair.

During the global COVID-19 pandemic, MAEOE is working with partners to develop professional learning and other online and accessible resources. Maryland Green Schools students are encouraged to share their passion for the environment while spending time “safer at home” with their families by recycling, turning off unnecessary lights and electrical plugs.
