Letter to Parents: 1/14/2021
January 14, 2021
Greetings Parents and Caregivers,
At last night's Budget Work Session, the School Board rescinded its vote to reopen schools with the hybrid model on 1/28/21. All schools will begin to transition to small group instruction on 1/28/21. School leaders will use the guidelines that were established in the fall to determine which students will participate in small groups and which teachers and support staff will provide small group instruction. Staffing decisions will be aligned with student needs. Conditions that impact the return of all students to school will be discussed at each School Board meeting and work session. Health metrics, staffing, and student needs continue to play a significant role in decisions to reopen schools for all students.
School-based and central office leaders are working to finalize plans for transportation and food service during small group instruction. We are working to ensure that schools are stocked with PPE, hall signs, and disinfectant. COVID 19 health and safety protocols are being distributed once again to schools so that they may be reviewed by employees and discussed with students.
All instructional staff is expected to return to school buildings on Monday, January 25, 2021. All QACPS employees and LLC bus contractors have been invited to schedule an appointment to receive the COVID 19 vaccine. Appointments to receive the vaccine will begin as early as Friday, January 15, 2021.
The safety of our students and staff is of the utmost importance. Thank you for your efforts to stay safe and for supporting your child/children during virtual learning.
Andrea M. Kane, Ph.D.
Superintendent of Schools
