Black History Month Virtual Panel Discussion with Alumni on Thursday, Feb. 4

CENTREVILLE, MD – Queen Anne’s County Public Schools (QACPS) celebrates Black History Month in February and will host a virtual panel discussion with QACPS alumni and students in grades 7-12 at 6 p.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2021. Several QACPS graduates will talk about their experiences at the event titled Navigating the Possibilities and the Obstacles to Living Your Dream as a Young Black Person.

“We are providing a forum for students to learn from one another and have positive, productive conversations about race. I commend our courageous alumni for their participation in this special event. We can learn a lot from our students and alumni,” Superintendent Dr. Andrea M. Kane said.

Black QACPS graduates will provide students with their personal stories and how they navigated:

Middle and high school
Postsecondary education
The world of work

Black QACPS graduates also will answer questions from facilitators regarding:

Academic paths in high school
Opportunity for enrollment in Honors and AP Courses
Navigating the college application process
Success in the world of work

QACPS invites students in grades 7-12 and their families to register to receive a link emailed one day before the event. The virtual panel discussion is sponsored by the Queen Anne’s County Equity Committee and organized by the Queen Anne’s County Educational Equity Subcommittee.
