School Board Begins Search for Superintendent of School System

MABE Consultant Requesting Input from Stakeholders; Survey Starts February 12th

The Queen Anne's County Board of Education has begun its search for a Superintendent of Schools with the assistance from Maryland Association of Boards of Education (MABE).

Mr. William Middleton, the lead MABE consultant, provided an update to the school board on January 4th, outlining the process for this search. Mr. Middleton highlighted the purpose of conducting a national search is to identify the best possible leader for the superintendent position while ensuring a fair, responsive, thoughtful and legal search.

The first step in this process is to gather stakeholder input regarding desired characteristics in the superintendent as well as identify current and future challenges in the system.

After receiving community and stakeholder input, the members will develop the final desired superintendent characteristics and criteria. The vacancy will be advertised starting on February 1st. Applications will be reviewed in March, with first-round interviews starting late March to early April. All interviews will be conducted virtually. The chosen candidate for the position will be announced by June for the new superintendent to officially begin on July 1, 2021.

The survey can be taken at and must be submitted to MABE no later than 5:00 p.m. Monday, February 22, 2021.

Any questions regarding the superintendent search process or procedures should be directed to William Middleton at MABE, or Tammy Harper, QACPS Board Member at
