NEW: Letter from Dr. Kane 3/20/2021
March 20, 2021
Dear QACPS Families:
This communication is a follow-up to the letter you received on Friday, March 19, 2021. During these unprecedented times, change is an expectation. I am grateful for the QACPS staff and families that are making every effort to adjust to the changes as they come. QACPS leaders are pleased that the revised guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will allow us to get more students in school for in-person learning. After meeting with principals and supervisors, a timeline for transitioning to four days of in-person instruction for students has been established. Masks continue to be required at all times. The timeline for implementation will be as follows:
Principals will administer a survey to families to determine which students will return to school 4 days per week (M, T, Th., Fri.), 2 days per week (AA/BB Cohort), or remain fully virtual by Wednesday, March 25th.
Principals will gather the results of the survey and communicate information about which students need transportation by April 7th.
Transportation staff will communicate information about updated routes for bus drivers on/about April 14th.
Wednesdays will remain as they are currently for all schools ensuring that some part of the day is designated for synchronous instruction.
The 4 days per week schedule will begin on April 22, 2021.
It is essential to recognize that guidance for social distancing on school buses remains one student per seat, with provisions for members of the same household to be seated together. Your assistance with providing transportation for your children if possible is sorely needed and greatly appreciated. Principals are making adjustments to seating in cafeterias and in some cases, students will be eating in classrooms. Principals will communicate further details for students and staff next week.
