Grasonville, MD – Each year, Queen Anne’s County Public Schools (QACPS) celebrates the creativity of its students through the Superintendent’s “Winter in Queen Anne’s” holiday art card contest. Elementary art students across the district, guided by their dedicated art teachers, create impressive works of art that capture the essence of winter in the community. Superintendent Dr. Patricia Saelens then undertakes the impossible task of selecting one exceptional piece to feature as the official QACPS holiday card, showcasing the talent and imagination of the district’s young student-artists.

On December 12, 2024, Dr. Saelens traveled to Grasonville Elementary School with Michael Bell, Supervisor of Fine Arts, to surprise this year’s winner – Sophie Parks! Guided by art teacher Ms. Megan Spence, Sophie was inspired to create a beautiful watercolor painting. A big congratulations to Sophie, and all of the talented QACPS student-artists who participated in this year’s contest. Watch the video of Sophie being surprised, along with all outstanding district-wide art contest entries at the end on YouTube!
